This project is about intimacy and the places where we are intimate with each other. It is also about photography and the truth or lack of truth it holds. The idea is for people to submit photos of beds in which they have just been intimate with another person. There are no people in any of the photographs. The viewer is asked to consider what may have occurred and the trace it leaves behind. Of course, the photos are culled from the public, and there is no way to know for sure that they are actually beds in which sex or intimacy of any kind has occurred. This is, of course, an issue with any photograph, particularly when digital manipulation is so easy and widespread. The viewer must determine for themselves whether they are prepared to accept the event the photo suggests or not.
If you would like to submit a photo for Sex Beds, email it to me from the Contact page. Because the project has to start somewhere, it will begin with one photograph - my own. It is the real thing.
